Gary Buchanan

Gary has been painting for many years, most notably exploring the changing face of Christchurch’s buildings following the 2011 earthquakes. He has captured some of the city’s most iconic structures, which has built into a unique record of Christchurch’s rebuilding over the past decade. 

For Gary, The White Room is a place where he can work alongside other people with shared experiences in a big art space. “There are a lot more choices over here as well, I just love it”.  

Gary has exhibited and sold his works numerous times, with his winning entry in the 2020 IHC Art Awards auctioned at Webbs Auction House. His solo exhibition New Building Rising took place at Tūranga Library in 2023.
